Where to begin with this epic, snowy mountain elopement. Izzy and Rob contacted me to help organise and capture their surprise elopement from interstate. We chose November as a date that worked for us, not ever dreaming that Summer in Tasmania there would be a snow storm and blizzard on the top of the mountain. Of course we are prepared for all weather here, Hartz Mountain is literally my backyard and we always tread carefully up there. The weather certainly made Rob's snowy mountain dreams come true, especially as we were unawares of the snow up the top.
We began with a quick ceremony on the side of the road as the snow was getting heavy. The wonderful Nat Weaver shouted into the elements and we all laughed at our tenacity. We had snow, hail, rain and crazy winds, however we still managed a first look. Taking shelter in the day use area we signed the certificates then made the decision to head up the mountain as far as we could go.
I was pushing snow off my camera bag just to get into my gear. The going was tough at first but spirits were high and we are all experienced hikers. For a brief moment the sun came out and we quickly took advantage of that gorgeous light. The original plan was to head to Ladies Tarn, however with a blizzard closing in we made the decision to stop at Lake Esperance and head back after a very quick photo shoot.
Darkness came quickly, but we timed it perfectly and were back at the car park for a hot cup of chaii from my trusty tea flasks. This adventure elopement was one for the memories and one we shall never forget.
I got my little crew back to their Airn BnB in time for my beautiful friend and amazing private chef, Sarah to cook up a storm.
